NEEDLEWORK MISSIONS -
Participants crochet
and knit baby items, winter clothing, afghans that are distributed
to hospitals, nursing homes, Cass Corridor in Detroit, the Pine
Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and other places as
needed.

RECTANGLES FOR
AFGHANS AND LAP ROBES
KNIT PATTERN
Supplies:
Worsted weight acrylic yarn
Size 7 needles or ones to knit gauge 5 sts. = 1 inch
o Cast on
35 stitches.
o Knit
every row until piece measures 9 inches.
Bind off.
CROCHET PATTERNS
Supplies: Worsted weight acrylic yarn
Size G hook or one for gauge 9 sts. = 2 inches
Single Crochet Rectangle
Chain 30 for foundation chain.
Row 1 – Single crochet on 2nd chain
from hook and every chain in foundation row.
Chain one and turn.
Row 2 – Working under two top loops of
each stitch in the previous row,
Single crochet across row.
Chain one and turn.
Repeat row 2 until piece measures 9
inches. Finish off.
Double Crochet Rectangle
Chain 27 for the foundation row.
Row 1 – Double crochet in 3rd chain
from hook and each chain of the foundation row.
Chain 2 and turn work.
Row 2 – Double crochet in each stitch
across the row. Chain 2 and
turn. Repeat row 2 until
piece measures 9 inches.
Finish off.
FINISHING
Crochet a single or half double row
around each rectangle.
Place rectangles in a 4x4, 5x5, 4x5,
5x6, or 6x7 pattern.
Sew rectangles together with a
whipstitch. Work in ends.
Crochet a trim around the entire
afghan.
